High levels of oxytocin, a neuropeptide, are associated with youthful-looking skin. They also prevent the release of inflammatory mediators. The Biology and Chemistry

Oxytocin is primarily released from the hypothalamus in the brain, but it's also released by keratinocyte and fibroblast cells in the epidermis and dermis - the top layers of the skin. These cells are responsible for creating the “building blocks” of the skin: collagen, elastin and internal hyaluronic acid. These cells also express oxytocin receptors. By binding to these receptors, oxytocin can protect keartinocytes and fibroblasts from the ravages of potent inflammatory messengers that inflict skin aging.
